First Week - Home to Dauphin Island, AL

Well, a long awaited trip got underway! It's hard to believe that the last big trip was in 2010 - 4 years ago!! This one is different than the others -- we're not really sure where we're going (kind of like Abraham). The original plan was to head west with our good friends Bob & Sandy, but for several reasons, they were not able to make the trip. So initially, we're going to do a little birding along the Gulf Coast, then decide what road to take.
Like all of our trips in the past that start out heading south, we take the opportunity to visit family along the way. We left after church Sunday the 20th and went to McKinney Campground on Lake Alatoona near Acworth - which is also close to where one set of kids & grandkids live. We spent 2 nights there, and got in visits with Ricky, Randy, Jody, Trever, and Wade.
Tuesday the 22nd we moved on to Wetumpka, AL where another set of kids & grandkids live. We spent one night there and had a good visit with Scott, Pam, Will, Corrie, and Jake.
Wednesday the 23rd we went on down to Red Level, AL and spent 2 nights at my (David's) brother Ariel and his wife Gloria's place. My (David's) sister Jenny also came over from Dothan and spent 2 nights and we all had a great time.
Friday the 25th (yesterday) we came on down to Dauphin Island, AL to start a week of birding. Bird migration is in full swing and Dauphin Island is one of the main stops all the birds make after making the flight from South America.
This first post is just to get this blog going and to catch everyone up-to-date as to where we've been this last week and where we are. More to follow --- stay tuned!
